We’re Hiring – Board Member, Treasurer

We Are The Villagers is looking for an individual to join our Board as Treasurer.  This individual will have an accounting/financial background to provide expertise in overseeing the financial management of the charity.  Responsibilities will include working with our Executive Director and Charity Accountant in reporting to the Board on financial management, financial reporting, internal controls, compliance, banking and investments, strategic financial planning, and the Charity’s annual Financial Review.  The Board meets on a quarterly basis, and the Board Treasurer will arrange to meet with management as needed.  Please CONTACT US to express your interest and obtain more information.

Geoffrey Crompton, Co-Founder and Chairman of the Board

Geoffrey Crompton is a real estate agent in the Greater Toronto Area and the father of 2 girls and 2 boys with 4 amazing granddaughters.  He emigrated from England in 1969 and for most of the last 40+ years has lived in Toronto. Approximately 6 years ago, Geoffrey moved to Midland and purchased The Library Restaurant. It was at this time that he decided that he could make a difference in the lives of underprivileged children by raising money through the restaurant to help them participate in activities that they wouldn’t normally have access to.   For his efforts, Geoffrey Crompton received the YMCA Peacemakers Medallion in 2014.

Dr. Matyas (Brad) Hervieux, President

Dr. Hervieux completed a Combined Honours BSc Physiology & Psychology, as well as a DHS in Honours English, at the University of Western Ontario.  After completing his Masters Degree in English at the University of Western Ontario, he studied Medicine at McMaster university before completing his residency in Family Medicine at the University of Toronto.  He currently works with urban and rural marginalised populations across Ontario, Canada.  Dr. Hervieux is a doctor in the Emergency Ward of the Georgian Bay General Hospital in Midland, Ontario, Canada.

Cathy Mills, Executive Director

Our Executive Director, Catherine Mills brings over 18 years of experience working with social services stakeholders and supporting disadvantaged families, children and youth through the charitable sector.  In collaboration with community partners, Cathy played a pivotal role in establishing and managing a successful poverty reduction Initiative, incorporating sport and recreation to improve health and well being for families throughout Simcoe County.  Committed to the belief ‘It takes a village to raise a child’, Catherine looks forward to the continued growth of We Are The Villagers within the community to facilitate brighter futures and bring joy to all of our Villagers.

Dedicated to the loving memory of co-Founder and former President, Julianna Matyas, 1947-2017

Julianna was President and CEO of Matyas Consulting Inc., a Business Management Consulting Firm which includes Paralegal and Accounting aspects as well as tax returns.   Former Chair of the Overseeing Committee and Director of International Admissions at St. Martinus University Faculty of Medicine on the Island of Curacao and ran their offices in Markham, Ontario.   She was the youngest Executive Vice President of the Ontario Home and School movement and worked across the Province during her two year term.   Julianna was co-recipient of YMCA World Peacemaker Medallion in 2014 for work in creating the Charity known as We Are The Villagers.  On March 23, 2015, she was presented with The Award of Merit from the Town of Midland for her years of dedication and service to the Community.  Sadly, we lost the love and support of Julianna to cancer in August, 2017.
